Comments: I served with CoA, 1stBN, 14th Inf From April,1965 thru Jan 1967. In Pleiku! When searching through 25th unit history I find it a shame that the Golden Dragons of 1st Bn 14th Inf are always left out. Its not our fault that our Battallion was put in with the 4th Div in late 67. Hell, we ain't even mentioned in RED THUNDER TROPIC LIGHTNING , The world of a combat division in Vietnam, a historical book written by Eric M. Bergerud. Our Battalion should not have been excluded from this book or from this site under (units).I only hope that somehow this could be put straight and get Lt. Colonel Gilbert Proctor (DADDY DRAGON) his Battallions proper recognition. Thanks for the chance to get this out of my system and "GOLDEN DRAGONS" "THE RIGHT OF THE LINE"

Comments: I served in 25 Inf. Div., Charlie Company, 725th Maint. BN '76 to '77 & 9th Inf. Div., Bravo Company 9th S&T BN '74 to '76. Served in 103rd WSSF USAF '81 to '84 and last, as an AGR member to the Yankee Division '76 Inf Div., Echo Company 126th Avn., '89 to '91 & HHC 2/126th Avn Regt., '91 to '92. Awards: AAM 2nd, NSM 2nd, AFLM 1st and AFSAM. My Father: Paul E. Ouellette CPL served in G. Company 1/19th Inf. Regt. 24th Inf Div., in Korea July 1st 1950. July 4th 1950, there was no rest, the 24th Division had been in steady combat without relief for nearly seven weeks. Along the Kum River the first Battalion of the regiment was surrounded, and General Dean pulled Paul's platoon out of the first battalion. WITH FOUR HALF TRACKS, two tanks and two jeeps, the patrol got to within 4,000 yards of the isolated first battalion when the Reds attacked from the flank. An hour long fight ensued, during which all the officers and NCOs in the patrol were wounded or killed. Paul received a shrapel wound in the neck. "We had no leaders. We didn't know what to do," he said. General Dean was in the last jeep at the end of the column. "I didn't see him after the attack," Paul said. Two of the half tracks, the tanks, and one jeep got out of the action. "I got out there too," he said. Paul received his second and more serious wound in the attempt to take the Naktong River Hill. "They watched us coming up the hill from the ridge, about 100 yards away," he said. It seemed to me there were a couple of hundred of them up there." The platoon sergeant was killed in the initial firing, and Paul took over. "They came over the hill in a banzai attack, screaming and yelling, I yelled to get back. Then I looked around and saw there was nobody to fall back, only myself and this Nisei boy. Then I was hit." He fell and rolled down the hill. The rest of the company saw what had happened and machine guns opened up, keeping the Reds away while Paul and his lone companion got out. HOW DID THE American troops hold up in combat? Some of the green troops broke and ran at first, he said. His lower right arm is in a brace now, because the rifle bullet pierced the nerves, but an operation in two months is expected to reconnect the nerves. This story was written by JOE ALEX MORRIS JR. Times Staff Writer. The operation was unsuccessful and his arm is still useless today. I wished to say a pray for the late General Dean, who died at 82. Dean, who won the Medal of Honor for personnally leading his men against North Korea tanks in the town of Taejon, was called "one of America's great heroes" by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Maxwell Talor when Dean retired in 1955. General William F. Dean, the Korean War's most famous prisoner and a combat-tested hero who insisted he was "just a dog-faced soldier." Two south Korean civilians betrayed him to the communists Aug. 20, 1950. Perhaps the decoration of which he was most proud was the Combat Infantryman's Badge presented to him at his retirement ceremony. General Dean thank you, Sir and may God bless you for eternity!! Comments: INTRODUCTION TO THE AUGUSTA GROUPThe Augusta Group is a loose association (no dues required) of military retiree veterans from Augusta, Georgia, encouraged and supported by others from across the nation. Our purpose is to educate and persuade our national leaders to honor the confirmed and unequivocal commitments made to military personnel who answered the call to serve our nation in time of all-out war and who assumed often unpopular responsibilities so that the cold war could be won. The Problem: Since prior to World War II military personnel were promised, in exchange for at least twenty years of honorable service at less than prevailing civilian wages, no-cost medical care for themselves and eligible dependents after retirement for the rest of their lives. For years, monthly military pay slips included a notation that future free medical care was to be considered as deferred compensation when comparing military pay with civilian wages. And, until recently, the United States government honored that commitment through medical care at Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). Today, with the down-sizing of the military, medical care at MTFs is no longer available to military retirees. As a result, they are the only Federal employees who lose their employer provided health care when they reach the age of 65. Convention to Educate Congress by Mail (CECM) As a follow-on to the Convention to Educate Congress (CEC) event, held 22 September 1998, in Washington DC, which was organized by the Class Act Group Lawsuit (Ft. Walton Beach FL) and the Coalition Of Retired Military Veterans (Sumter SC), and supported by, NAUS, TROA, TREA, the Augusta Group, and other Veterans Organizations, and as a prelude to the next CEC event ........ We hereby propose that on 31 December 1998 every retired military veteran, their family members and friends send a letter by regular mail to: their 2 Senators, their Congressperson, the Secretary of Defense, and as many of the major news organizations as possible. Help Us!!: The Augusta Group is committed to securing public and congressional support to resolve this deplorable situation. Comments: My dad, Lawrence L. Foster served in the 25th during WWII and after. He may have seen combat in the Phillipines, but after OCS he was in the Army of Occupation in Osaka where he met and married my mom, Kathleen Keeley, who was in the Red Cross. I am looking for anyone who may have known him and/or any way to check to see if he did see combat. he never talked about it, except mentioning that the San Miguel Brewery was an early target to be liberated. Unfortunately, he died in 1985.

We were in an ambush about 2 klicks West of Camp Evans when my Track C21 received a rec rifle hit in the engine, and 7 RPG hits on the left side. My M60 gunner Sgt, later Ssgt Raphael Casanova distinguished himself that evening. I left Country in Sept 1969. I believe that 'Cas' Casanova later transfered to an Infantry Unit of the 25th Div, I am seeking his whereabouts to substantiate a VA claim for a collapsed lung, when I was treated aboard the USNS Hospital ship Sanctuary off the Coast of Quang-Tri, Wunda Beach operations area sometime in late Feb 69. Also looking for Gregory Putska my track Driver. Where are you newbie!

Comments: I served with A Trp. 3/4 Cav from May 1965 until Dec 1966 in 1st Plt. scouts and infantry under Lts Trifiletti and Appler. We deployed to Cu Chi from Schofield Barracks in Jan '66 (only we had a little stopover in Okinawa to draw new tanks and tracks and didn't get in country until March). If any of you 1st Plt. guys can use a computer (which I doubt, at least not the scouts or infantry) I'd really like to hear from you. Actually I'd like to hear from anyone who was in A Trp. during that period. Maybe there's a tanker out there who's online. Or a mortar section member. Come on out from under your rocks, I know somebody must out there! I mean, even my wife doesn't believe I fought the Vietnam war all by myself, even though that's what I told her.

Comments: Served with the "Gimlets", 21st Infantry from 1960 to 1962. Later transferred to USARPAC and ETS'd in January 1963. If there are any fellow "Gimlets" that served during my time I sure would like to hear from you. I was assigned to Headquarters Company and worked as a Personnel Specialist. Why isn't the 21st listed under the 25th Infantry Division?

Comments: A GREAT SITE FOR ILL PEOPLE LIKING WAR. Please have a look at my site.

*****RESPONSE:You are welcome to your opinion, though I doubt whether they are widely shared by your countrymen. American soldiers have died by the millions to defend strangers half a world away. Twice in this century, those strangers were French. These American soldiers had lives and families that they willingly set aside to help countries such as yours in their hour of need. I hope the fate of France does not depend on the likes of you in some future time of peril, or it will be doomed indeed. And for the record, this site is not for those who "like war". Those who have seen war do not like it. This site's purpose is to honor devotion to duty, comradship, and sacrifice.*****

Comments: I'm recently retired due to medical problems,(I'm only 52), and am trying to establish some sort of life for myself. All my efforts for the past 25 years or so were aimed at work and now that doesn't exist for me, at least for the forseeable future, therefore I'm just trying to touch base on as many things as possible to find out what to do next. I'll try to touch base every now and then. So-Long.
