I have beat my brain trust trying to identify with others in this guest book with no luck. 32 years is a long time! How many remember spending a night at OP Ann Margaret? How about walks in the rubber on the other side of OP Ann Margaret? I remember being a member of the Saigon Power and Electric Company more than the Electric Strawberry. If my name rings a bell with anyone out there from the 25th please feel free to get in touch.

Comments: I am deeply indebted to this page. Not yet a month after posting a message, I was contacted by someone who fought and served with my father, Carson G. Culleton, KIA 25 July 68 at Binh Duong. This man, Dan Hollister, told me many things about my father that I had waited a lifetime to hear. Dan told me that "Cully" was very close to a fellow soldier named Bill Carle, who was at the time from California. In fact, in one of Cully's Viet Nam photo albums I have, there are two pictures of Bill Carle. Can anyone help me find Bill Carle?

Comments: Trying to help a fellow vet find some closure. Howard Lyle Brown served in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade, Co A., near Cu Chi in 1966. He cannot remember his friends name, a fellow SGT-E/5, from Riverside California, that was killed in action (GSW) and died in his arms sometime between April 1, 1966 and July 31, 1966. The soldier was about 5'8, brown hair, small to medium build. I know this isn't a lot to go on, just hoping someone may remember, and help identify the man's name. Thanks.

Comments: The Changjin Reservoir Battle has been acknowledged by historians as one of the fiercest battles of the Korean War(1950-53). But because there were few Korean witnesses, the events of the conflicts and the heroism of the allied soldiers who fought has gone largely unnoticed here.Fought from November to December 1950 by the United Nations' allied forces and U.S. Marines against the Chinese soldiers in a remote mountainous terrain in North Korea, the battle left over 40,000 Chinese soldiers and 2,500 U.S. marines and U.N. soldiers dead in the course of just a few days. According to survivors, over 5,000 allied men were also wounded in action, and because of the freezing winter temperatures about 7,500 suffered from severe frostbite and cold.Nearly half a century later, the battle captured the attention of Korean journalist-turned novelist Jeon Kyung-ae, who has been chronicling the harrowing battle in detail for her new two-volume Korean novel "Chosin Few." Recently published by Seoul publishing company Tou-woo, the novel is presently out on local bookshelves. Jeon, who was a former Korea Herald reporter is currently working on an English translation of the book, which she hopes to publish in the United States. "I decided to write the battle down because I believe it should be remembered by Koreans. A number of foreign soldiers lost their lives here for the cause of freedom, and their families and loved ones have been in grief over their loss," Jeon said in an interview with The Korea Herald. Like many of her countrymen, Jeon had no idea about the battle until she received a fax early last year from an American Korean-War veteran living in Hawaii named Lt. Col. Thomas Kalus. Kalus was inspired to contact Jeon after he read a Korea Herald article about Jeon's Korean novel "Montana 625", a love story between a U.S. soldier who dies in the Korean War and his American fiancee. The book is based on a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and records of American soldiers who fought in the war, which Jeon found in a local museum in Bosman, a small town in Montana. Inspired by the article about Jeon's book, Kalus tried to contact her to let her know about an association he headed called the Chosin Few, an exclusive international organization of Korean War Veterans who fought in the Changjin Reservoir Battle. Founded in 1983, the association has a membership of 7,000 in 52 chapters in the United States, England and Australia. The Hawaii-based association was named from the Japanese maps used at that time by the Allied forces which mistakenly recorded Changjin as "Chosin." Instantly intrigued by Kalus' account of the battle, Jeon went last August to Hawaii to do research on the subject and interview a number of survivors, now mostly in their 70s. Jeon was also able to meet General Alpha Bowser who led the allied troops during the campaign. After completing her research, she wrote "Chosin Few," which she put together from all her acquired research. "There were so many untold harrowing stories related with the battle. But there were also some uplifting ones," Jeon said.In the most moving episode, the retreating allied troops and U.S. Marines helped about 100,000 North Korean refugees in Hungnam, a North Korean port, to escape to South Korea. "None of us will ever forget the more than 100,000 Korean refugees who gave up their families, home and friends as they chose to sail south with us and seek a new life," wrote Thomas Kalus in the fax sent to Jeon. Jeon said that it is hard to find such a large-scale rescue operation involving so many civilians in war history. Jeon's depiction of the battle in "Chosin Few" centers primarily around the same theme as "Montana 625". Annie, the fiancee of a U.S. marine from Montana, goes insane after hearing about his death in the battle. Critics say that because it is the first detailed account of the significant battle, it deserves merit as a historical reference.Jeon said that while interviewing Chosin Few members, she was deeply touched by the fact that they were trying to find a message of peace and love from their harrowing experiences. "Some were sympathetic about their Chinese enemies. They told me about how much better their conditions were compared to the Chinese soldiers, who rarely had medical facilities and had to leave the wounded to die. If they were treated, their casualties wouldn't have been so high," Jeon said.A member of the Chosin Few veterans association in Hawaii suggested to Jeon that South Korea arrange the reunion of both the allied and Chinese survivors of the battle in Seoul next year to mark the 50th anniversary of the outreak of the Korean War.Jeon, who has dedicated her life to writing stories about the Korean War, is searching for a subject for her next book. The e-mail of Jeon is kejeon@unitel.co.kr

No, not saying welcome, or thanks for joining this organization, but a letter wanting me to sell tickets and send them money. What a group this must be, the only time they acknowledge you is when they want money. Well I don't think so. You will not get another dime from me folks. It is a shame too, you seem to have some nice people involved. r1354@hotmail.com

Our mission was one of General Support Re-enforcing. Our guns reenforced the fires of the Direct Support battalions that traveled with the Brigades. Because of this mission our operations section was frequently in contact with the operations sections of the other DivArty units. Hopely more information on the 3rd Battalion !3th Field Artillery will come available and you'll post it on this site. I was LAZY Control Operator for a while, then served a short time as MP Desk Clerk, and then Company Clerk for Recon. A few names: 1st Sgt WR Adams, Capt. Harold B Williams CO., Capts. McKnight, Vance, Mercer, Lts Dudley, Labozetta,Ryan, Dekker, Rousseau, Traber, Chezem, Neill, Byrnes, Rutherford, Sgts Jim and Jack Chaney, Cunningham, Cooper, Bixler, Anderson, Grims, Peckham, Sparks, Yakus, I have been searching for old comrades for several years, and have recently located several. I have 3 albums of pictures taken 1947 – 1950. I am sure you will remember the old Tenjinbashi building, “Lightning University,” Lightning Blvd., RTO train station, Osaka castle, Osaka PX, Kabuki, International, and Pacific Star cabarets… It would make my day to hear from any of you from the old unit, so let me hear from you. The 25th division assoc should consider him a great hero in the way he saved the day with his preperation and ultimate victory! I discovered his great contribution when I read "A BRIGHT SHINING LIE", by Neil Sheehan. I think this fact should be shared with all the members of the association!! ps- the book has been made into a movie for tv by HBO by the same title.

I was riding on Cpt Burkholder's track when it ran over a mine in June. My RTO took over the FO spot, and I spent the rest of my tour as a housecat, doing C.Q. for HHC. I was incountry from Mar '67-Mar '68. I don't remember much about my year and am trying to put it together. Where is Fred Case? He still owes me $20.00! Peace, Ted

I have a certificate dated AUG 1943 for aSSGT Tex Wooden who graduated from the "Ranger and Combat Training School" at Schofield Barracks. Arethere any vets out there who took this training who could answer some / all of these questions:1. Did you receive special insignia to identify you as a Ranger?2. What did they teach at the course, who trained you, how long was the course?3. How many classes went through, number of graduates?4. Do photos exist of the training or articles? How about mention in the official 25th unit history from WWII?Thanks! 1LT Bill Linn

Part of that effort includes adding a KIA listing to Cliff Westwood's Photographs From Vietnam website. This listing will include both the 1/35 and 2/35 for the 25th and 4th Divisions. Am asking for help, especially with pre-1967 KIA's. Thought maybe somewhere there is exisiting list already started. Comments: The 1999 - 22nd Infantry Regiment Society Reunion begins Thursday 13 May at the Holiday Inn Select Dallas/Ft Worth Airport North in Irving, Texas. Some of our attendees are already enroute or soon to be. To those who will not be with us this time our thoughts will be with you. A hearty Texas Welcome to those who will be coming - we hope to show you a good time while you are here, but any time with friends and comrades, old or new, will be a great time. I just received the following report from Shannon Timberlake on the death of (Major) Ron Timberlake: "Ron passed away May 6th. He was killed in a motorcycle accident when someone pulled out in front of him. The Memorial Service was May 9th, and internment will be at Arlington May 18th at 0900." - I knew Ron only from his writings but have developed a deep respect for his honor and patriotism. As I recall he served his first tour with the 187th AHC (Crusaders) out of Tay Ninh and undoubtedly flew many missions in support of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions 22nd Infantry and the rest of the 25th Division as well. The Division and the Nation have lost a true friend and hero.

Comments: I'm so glad I found this site! My deep gratitute to all persons that served our country in VietNam. Like many others, I'm sure, I am trying to find people that served with my father, Carson G. Culleton, KIA 25 July 1968 in Binh Duong, South VietNam. He was a SGT-E5, Co A, 2d Bn, 12th Inf, 25th Inf Div. Already now, I am six years older than he lived to be. The burden of not knowing my father has been great, and it increases with the years as I make my own way without his guidance. I know this burden is not as great as the painful memories of serving in SE Asia, but if it would not trouble anyone to dredge up the past, I would sincerely like to hear from you if you knew or served with my father. If the pain is too great, this I also understand, and I pray that you may one day be at peace with yourself.

Comments: 3D Brigade HHC 1st Bn 35th Inf 25th Inf Div. Dec 1965 - Nov 1966 (Pleiku). I expect someone I know will see this some day. I was the Armorer for HHC. Just like to say hello and thanks to all you guys in Recon and companies A, B and C that served with me in 1st Bn. Whatever history says about our effort can not change the fact we did our job in a courageous manner. Hellos to Robert(Skip) Baker HHC, Thomas Pyter HHC and line company buddies Richard Nagy and Ernest Starnari. Special thanks to 1st SGT Jerome Kraus for being firm yet understanding when I screwed up. Everytime I feel down I remember those who fell and I count my blessings.
