From the President
This Website is here to tell the world who we are. We are the Association whose membership is made up of men and women who proudly served their nation's Army assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in war and peace since 1941. The 25th Infantry Division was the first American Army unit to see combat in World War II when the Japanese attacked Hawaii on December 7, 1941.The Division has served in combat in most of our nation's major conflicts since then. The 25th Infantry Division Association was formed in 1949 by World War II Veterans and welcomes as members anyone who ever served with the 25th Infantry Division. This Website is designed to tell the story of both the 25th Infantry Division and the 25th Infantry Division Association. Take a look at this site and learn of the dedicated heroic service to this nation performed by the men and women who wore the red taro leaf with yellow lightning bolt on their sleeve. The 25th Infantry Division has never failed to successfully complete any mission assigned. Were you ever assigned to The 25th Infantry Division? If the answer is "yes," then we hope you will join the thousands of proud members of the 25th Infantry Division Association. When looking at this Website, consider the many benefits of membership. The primary benefit is belonging to a group of individuals who have experienced events and situations similar to yours. You will experience a sense of camaraderie that you may not have felt since you last wore your uniform with that distinctive Tropic Lightning patch. The value of this benefit of friendship and understanding from other members is impossible to measure. Each year we have our annual reunion where members and their families gather to have a great time and share experiences. These reunions rotate around the country, returning every fifth year to our Division's home in Hawaii. Once every five years you should be within driving distance of one of our annual reunions. Our 2006 reunion in Hawaii was attended by over 630 members & guests. In 2007 we will be in Lexington, Kentucky at a great resort offering our members a extra-special low room rate for the reunion. In 2008 we will be at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. But we have more to offer you as a member than friendship and understanding. Members receive "Tropic Lightning Flashes" a great 40-page newsletter published four times a year. Children and grandchildren of members are also eligible to receive scholarships. In the past five years we have given over $150,000 in scholarships to our children and grandchilren. We recently dedicated, the first memorial in the nation that honors and remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Global War on Terrorism. This Memorial at Schofield Barracks has inspired us to build a similar memorial in or around Washington DC. Some other activities the Association is involved in include sponsoring the 25th Infantry Division Archive Collection at the George C. Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Virginia and supporting the Tropic Lightning Museum at Schofield Barracks Hawaii. If you are not a 25th Division Veteran, we hope that you will find this site interesting and help you to appreciate the role that our many thousands of Veterans have played in the history of our nation for nearly three-quarters of a century. If you are a Veteran of the 25th Infantry Division, we invite you to join our Association and enjoy the many benefits of membership noted above. Start planning now to join us in Lexington, Kentucky for our 58th Annual Reunion in 2007! Tropic Lightning Sir,
