25th Infantry Division Association: The Units

ORDER OF BATTLE

The following tables display the Order of Battle of the 25th Infantry Division during World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam and the Global War on Terrorism. The Order of Battle lists those units that were assigned to the 25th Infantry Division during each conflict to include explanatory notes and footnotes where appropriate.

The 25th Infantry Division received Department of the Army official campaign participation credit for 4 campaigns in World War II, represented by four bronze campaign stars on the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbon. The Division's 10 Korean campaigns are represented by two silver campaign stars (one silver campaign star is equivalent to five bronze campaign stars) on the Korean Service ribbon. The twelve campaigns participated in by the Tropic Lightning in Vietnam are represented by two silver campaign stars and two bronze campaign stars on the Vietnam Service ribbon.

GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM

AFGHANISTAN CAMPAIGN	IRAQ CAMPAIGN
Note: The 25th Infantry Division Headquarters served in the capacity of the combined/joint headquarters for all US and Allied forces operating in Afghanistan during the period February 2004-February 2005 known as Combined/Joint Task Force 76, Operation Enduring Freedom V. In that capacity the division (-) and its accompanying subordinate elements were formed into task forces. Some of these task forces were composed of only of 25th Infantry Division units others included both Tropic Lightning units as well as other US Army, US Marine and Allied elements. The order of battle below identifies those units assigned to the 25th Infantry Division that operated in the task force configuration by indicating in parenthesis the designation of the task force under the unit designation.	Note: The 25th Infantry Division has participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom since January 2004. The 2nd Brigade served from January 2004 through September 2005 attached to the 1st Infantry Division with Brigade headquarters located at Kirkuk. The brigade was organized into battalion task forces. The 1st Battalion (Attack) 25th Aviation served as a separate battalion supporting US Army forces in the Baghdad region. The 1st Brigade Combat Team (Stryker) served from October 2004-2005 in and around the city of Mosul with its elements conducting security, stability and training missions. On 13 September 2006 Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division assumed command of the Multinational Division-North from the 101st Airborne Division and was located at Contingency Operating Base (COB) Speicher in Tikrit. The 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Infantry), 25th Infantry Division was located at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Warrior in Kirkuk and the Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division was split-based at COB Speicher and FOB Warrior. The 25th Infantry Division Headquarters, the 3rd Brigade Combat Team and the Combat Aviation Brigade completed a fifteen month tour in October 2007 and returned to Schofield Barracks. The 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) served a fifteen month tour of duty from October 2006 to December 2007. Based at FOB Kalsu the brigade primarily served in Babil, Karbala and Najaf provinces with battalions also serving in Anbar province and in Baghdad. The 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Stryker) began a tour of duty in December 2007. The brigade is based at Camp Taji, 27 kilometers northwest of Baghdad. The 6th Squadron,17th Cavalry of the division's Combat Aviation Brigade and presently attached to the Aviation Task Force 49 from Fort Wainwright Alaska, began a tour of duty in Iraq in December 2007.
