I remember it well and keep the friendships I made with many good people. The memories of a young man light the way as I get older. I am now a Captain of Detectives for the Hendricks Co Sheriff. Sadly I see action now that I was fortunate enough to miss while I was in the Division. If any of my old unit is out there give me a whistle. Clarke Fine, Sp4

Comments: I was sent to Luzon (Bagguo) as an infantry replacement in August 1945. Fortunaely, the bomb was dropped just before we reached Manilla. I was assigned to a unit called "Kobe Base". As I recall , this was supposed to be a support unit for the 6th Army. We made a beach landing at Wakayama Japan shortly after the signing of peace on the Missouri in Tokyo. I stayed in this unit until the spring of 1946 when I was transferred to the 25th Medical battalion in Osaka. I stayed in that unit until discharged in November 1946.

Comments: Served with First Cav. Div. (A 1/5) 2/69-2/70. We combined with a unit of the 25th Mech. in the Michelin Rubber in late Feb. ' 69 and took a pretty heavy toll on the NVA, who were well bunkered there. While on patrol near some of these bunkers our squad was attacked by a large NVA force. Minutes later several tracks from the 25th Mech. rolled up and bailed us out of the situation. I don't recall ever being happier to see someone. We lost one Skytrooper in the fight (Jerry Gobbo) but if it weren't for those guys from the 25th Mech. it would have been more. Thanks Guys!!! I've never forgotten you.

McGill, in responce your message #126.As I read this message a cold chill ran down my spine and tears ran down my cheaks.Ron Neuman was from Pottstown, PA, he and I were inducted on the same day, 12/16/64.We rode the trane to boot camp and trained together, we were so scared. After boot camp we were seperated and rejoined at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. We shipped out to Cu Chi, he was in the 3/4 and I was in the 25 MP CO. I was devastated when I found out he was gone, that made my tour there seem even longer. To this day I thing of him from time to time.I wish I could have gotten up the courage to find and visit his family when I came home.Your message brought back thoughts I haven't had in quite a while.Ron, you are remembered and missed, God bless you where ever you are.Roger, Your message was a bitter sweet trip for me, thanks.I think I'll join the association and maybe get involved.

I remember some of the WOLFHOUNDS coming up to us after a nasty fight and saying thanks for taking the heat off of us as chuck liked to shoot at the aircraft as much as he did the guys. Worst/best time of my life. As a Air Force guy am I welcome in your association? If so, are there any other Air Force types members? How often and where do you have reunions? Looked you up in the April edition of VIETNAM. Thanks guys for helping to make me who I am today! We were the guys who brought to Dau Tieng the OV-10 Bronco. Please look for a museum coming to South Florida soon. A number of us vets are planing THE VIETNAM WAR MUSEUM. Welcome home!!!!!

Would the association be at all interested in these photographs? I also have several copies of the old Tropic Lightning New I would be happy to turn over, although age has not treated them well. Comments: First I would like to thank you for putting this page together, even though there are numerous Vietnam era web-pages, there seems to be few that relate to us former ground pounders...... I was with Bravo company 2nd /35th infantry /25th & 4th divisionfrom March, 1967 to March 1968. We were in Vietnam's I-core, in Quang Ngai province, South of Quang Ngai City along highway #1, near DucPho. The 3rd brigade 25th division forward fire-base, I believe was "Bronco" ( I just remember they had a aluminum runway and a Dairy-Queen there.) We the, 2/35th, forward fire-base was LZ-Liz, and I think 1/35th was LZ-OD and 1ro2/14 was LZ-Dragon. Originally I was with the first platoon, first squad, then in June I became the RTO for the first platoon, platoon Sgt. Eventually working my way up to become communication Sgt. for Bravo company. Somewhere along the line, someone tagged me with the nickname "Westy" which in many cases I still proudly use today...... Over the past 30 years most of the names I have forgotten ( hell I didn't know there names in the first place, usually just their nicknames) but not them, nor their deeds and actions, these will remain with me until such time as it is for me to join our comrades that were unable to return to the Real World...... Here are some names, and nicknames I do remember, and would like to hear from them, or anyone, that I served with in company B 2/35 inf. 25div...... Capt. Jim Lindsey Co. June, to Nov. 1967 ( Jackson Mississippi)...... Capt. Pippia Co. Nov., 1967 until I left in March, 68..... Lt. Heart FO for Artillery (Union Town Pa.)..... Lt.Wayne Crochet FO for Artillery (New Orleans) ..... Sgt. Thomas 1st platoon, platoon Sgt...... Charles Robetson 1st platoon, 1st squad, squad leader ( I think) ( East St. Louis Illinois)..... Pfc. Hutchinson 1st platoon, 1st squad (Wounded May 27th 67)..... Pfc. Dan Evans 1st platoon, 1st squad (Sious City Iowa)..... Pfc. Jim Wills 1st platoon, 1st squad ( New Jersey)...... Pfc. Tom Pyke RTO Bravo, Kilo 6 ( Pennsylvania)..... Jamis Leatherberry RTO Bravo, Kilo 6 ( Ohio)...... nicknames Poncho RTO Bravo, Kilo 6 ( California )..... Alphabet 1st platoon, and 2nd platoon...... Wimpie 1st platoon..... Pig Pen 1st platoon..... Big John..... Little John..... KIA's..... Capt. Ralph Walker... On the Wall; Panel 21E - Row 016 There were two other KIA that night, but I cannot remember their names..... Ralph Moore... 1st platoon, 1st squad On the Wall; Panel 19E-Row 29:.... Roy Booth... 1st platoon, 1st squad On the Wall; Panel 20E-Row 128:.... Their are many more, but I cannot remember their names, or even their nicknames...... Well that's my two cents worth, I hope those of you who have better memories than I will post that which they had remember. If anyone would like to contact me via email I would be more than happy to hear from you guys...... As always Cliff Westwood (westy) Bravo Kilo 6 company B 2nd/ 35th inf. 25th / 4th div.... westywesty@msn.com..... Ps. one more name to and to the list;.... Mandy; of Potts Point New South Wales, Australia..... What can I say about Mendy, accept she made my R&R a vacation to remember, and the Vietnam experience almost worth while.

Comments: I served with the 1/27 - 25th Infantry 1968 - 1969, for two tours. I like many others remember the good times as well as the bad, though after all of these years the VA has convinced me that I'm not as crazy as I thought. I now know that I suffer from PTSD, I live on my monthly check and take my daily numerous medications. Great web site, keep up the good work and great to hear from all of the other Viet Nam survivors.
