Please enter your comments: I am a high school history teacher that has researched the 1943 battle of New Georgia in the Solomons for the past 4 years. The assault on Munda airfield there was made shortly after Guadalcanal was taken. While the main assault was the responsibility of the 43rd and later the 37th Divisions, the 25th did contribute two of its regiments as well. I thought that your readers would be interested. The book is called INTO THE SHADOWS FURIOUS: THE BRUTAL BATTLE FOR NEW GEORGIA (Presidio Press) and it's available at most bookstores or on line at amazon.com. I invite any veteran of the battle to write to me about my research into the book. Thanks!! Brian Altobello New Orleans

Please enter your comments: Looking for anyone who knew Peter F. Kovach from West Orange, NJ who was killed in August 1968. Pete was a high school classmate of mine. I was home on leave Thanksgiving 1968 and heard of his death at the Thanksgiving football game. It wasn't until 1995 that I found out Pete was with the 25th. The chopper he was in was hit by an RPG round in Tay Ninh Province during the August Offensive. Pete was medevaced to Japan where he died of his wounds a few days later. His classmates remembered him by having a paving stone engraved with his name placed at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Please enter your comments: For most of my tour with the Wolfhounds I was the Company Demo Man. Besides destroying bunkers and tunnels I also helped many men heat their C-rations by providing C-4. This often did not go over well with the CO, especially if I didn't have enough explosive for an important demo job. However this did not stop him from requesting the occasional piece to heat his meal. It was an interesting time and experience and this site offers an excellent opportunity to remember, and to contact others who remember as well, for there are times when I believe it must have been only a bad dream. I'm always eager to hear from others who can validate my memories. May God bless all who served.

Please enter your comments: Hello, my name is Kristin. My high school English Honors class just finished reading All Quiet on the Western Front and I was wondering if any war veterans could answer some questions I have regarding war. This would be greatly appreciated! and you can e-mail the answers to me at daisy85grl@aol.com. Thanks! 1.) Why did you enlist? Was it a voluntary action or were you encouraged to join from your parents, friends, or professors? 2.) What war did you fight in? What was the general situation during the time the war was fought? 3.) Have you ever read All Quiet on the Western Front? Was the situation similar to the war you fought in? Did you form the same types of relationships with men on your side? 4.) Were any of your close friends or family killed in war? 5.) Do you still keep in touch with friends that you fought with? 6.)Do you think about the war frequently or have any nightmares to this day? 7.) How has the war effected you or changed your life? 8.) When Paul in All Quiet on the Western Front went on leave, his attitude towards fighting changed. Did you have any similar experiences and was it a different atmosphere when you came back home after fighting? 9) How did your family react to you being in war? 10) Did you ever make any physical contact with the other side? Did you have any sympathy for those on the other side that were wounded? Were you wounded at all during the war? 11.)Were you proud to fight for your country? (Because we certainly appreciate it!) Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. It would be very appreciated it you could respond (and as soon as possible) Thanks!! ~Kristin
