I got yanked up to Hq USARPAC at Camp Smith on the Manpower Team, and started sadly to up the levels in MAAG Vietnam, which in retrospect we should never have done! I sure loved my time in Division and Hawaii. Still hoping to hear from some of the people I met and/or served with. Nice Site, keep it going.

I am interested in any information about CSM Jack Wood. He is my grandfather. He was not killed during combat and is still alive today. I am trying to do some research and give him a scrap book detailing the battles he was in. I do not want to spoil it by asking him straight out to give me the specifics. I know that he was in Tropic Lightning 25th Infantry division.(sorry if that is not the correct way to put it) And I do not know if it will help, but I know he contributed to the book Red Thunder, Tropic Lightning. A friend in the Wolfhound regiment was KIA 28 Nov, 1950. In Lt. Col. Sherman W. Pratt's book, Decisive Battles of the Korean War,he states the 25th Division was on his left and was hit hard on Nov. 26. His unit was near Kunu-ri and the Chinaman's Hat. So, my friend was near the Chongchon river on the 26th. I'd like to know more about his situation on the 28th, like what unit he was with and where. I have his ASN but do not know where to find his unit or its whereabouts on the 28th. Any suggestions?

I reported to A Troop 3/4 Cav. in Jan. 1965. In the spring or summer of 65 I volunteered for SHOOT GUN and ended up in Bien Hoa as a Door Gunner for the Rattlers for 3mons. Back to Schofield for a while. Then whent to Cu Chi with A Troop and drove an APC scout track. I transferred to D Troop in 66 as a Door Gunner. A special Hi to CSM R. Pety it was great to see your post.

I was a forward observer with the aforementioned units and have not met a single man-child I served with in Nam. Desperately trying to put my life back on track and I feel the overwhelming need to get back into the fold with my fellow grunts. I've written three Vietnam War-inspired books (all published) and at times cry uncontrolablly because of the lack of connection with the men I shared a tramatic tour of duty with. I'm seeking some semblence of closure so I can move on in life. I'm on disability for PTSD and also had my kneecaps shattered in the folly that was the Vietnam War. Misery loves company, I am miserable. I have no friends and live on a ranch in Northwest Ohio and live a hermit-like exsistence. My only solice is a wife that has stuck by me through thick and thin for 30 years, but even her patience is running low. I enlisted and volunteered for a tour of duty with the infantry in a war I destested and vigerously protested against. I grew up in a rural town of less than 2,000, yet we lost five good men to the war. All friends I grew up with. One buddy died will I was in Nam and after I dug myself out the bottle (for a few months) I found out he was KIA in 70, but not discover that news until 1996. It broke my heart that I didn't even know when the war ended until the mid-80s. Booze and drugs still dominate my life and I can't shed the memories of the war. I've spent time in psych wards and can't come to terms with my parti****tion in the war that destro*** my spirit and has transformed me into an anger and bitter man to this day, and no immediate relieve appears in the horizon. father-in-law was a army major and I was looking for information on his troops at schofield barracks in the early 60's

My father-in-law, Major G.W.Avery, retired army, served in WW2 and my husband,Wayne, has fond memories of the early 60's at Schofield Barracks. I have heard many stories about the soldiers that looked out for the Major's, son, Wayne. Shakey Yates was a 35 year old private who taught Wayne how to shoot pool like a pro. I was trying to find info on whether these guys shipped out to Nam after 1963. I have heard alot about some soldiers from Cacti at Schofield. Anyone have any information or does anyone remember Major G.W.Avery? He is 81 now and loves to reminisce about the military.

I was a replacement for a platoon that was all killed except one man that we called combat. I was only there a short time before I injured my hip joint on a search and destroy mission trying to get back on a chopper. I think it was B company but I'm not sure. I came from the 3rd17th air cav on the infusion program. I was told that the platoon that I was a replacement was caught in a ambush and all but one were killed.

I started in Chu Chi. My MOS was 62B10 then to 62B20. I drove a contact truck with an M-60. I was sent out to repair heavy equipment used for the building of airstrips and bridges. I also repaired tracks when they broke down. Many times I was out by myself. I did meet some people along the way but some of them were out of my company. I stayed in a commo binker towards the end of my tour which David Martin stayed with me and we called it room 222 or 202 after the T.V. show. I had received divorce papers late 70 and was shipped immediately back home but came back over and my company had disbanded. If anyone remembers this please e-mail me. Thank You.

This months issue of National Geographic has an article on Korea along with a map on one side and a Korean War map on the other. I haven't read the article as of yet but it looks interesting.
